<p>We are seeking volunteers who would like to share their experiences in a 60-90 minute interview face-to-face or online.</p>
<p><strong>Who can participate?</strong></p>
<p>To take part, you must:</p>

<li>Be 18 or over</li>
<li>Be currently in a relationship and co-parenting children between 0-17 with someone who engages in harmful gambling, or have been in such a relationship within the last two years.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Why should I take part?</strong></p>

                    <description><![CDATA[<p>We are working on a book chapter reporting on the role of neurological function in gambling related crime. We are looking for people who would be willing to meet with the research team (Amanda Roberts and Steve Sharman) and to then write one short paragraph regarding gambling related crime. Short paragraphs will be used to illustrate research in a book chapter. All paragraphs will be fully anonymised.</p>
<p>Please get in touch with us if you:</p>

<li>Have committed a gambling-related crime or someone close to you has</li>
</ul>
<p>If you join our team, you will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Support us with how we write a book chapter</li>
<li>Attend one meeting, that will last no more than one hour</li>
<li>If participating in-person, the location of this meeting will be in Loughborough. Reasonable (economy/budget) travel expenses to and from Loughborough will be reimbursed or purchased in advance. All participation in the above activities will be reimbursed at a rate of £20 voucher.</li>
</ul>
<p>The research team will work with the appointees at the earliest opportunity to identify support needs that benefit both the individual and the project. We will connect appointees with the appropriate organisations who can provide them with support should they need it. Appointees will be kept informed of the projects progress, and check-ins will occur.</p>

                    <description><![CDATA[<p>We are a research team from the University of Birmingham, funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). We are working on a project (a review of evidence) on gambling harms in ethnic and faith minority communities. We are looking at the risk factors for gambling harm, the gambling harms experienced, the barriers to treatment, recovery and support and the role of community organisations in preventing harm.</p>
<p>We are looking for people to join our advisory team. Please get in touch with us if you:</p>
<ul>
<li>Identify as being from an ethnic or faith minority community</li>
</ul>
<p>AND</p>
<ul>
<li>Have experienced harm because of your own or someone else’s gambling</li>
</ul>
<p>OR</p>
<ul>
<li>Are working within ethnic and faith minority communities supporting those with experience of gambling harms.</li>
</ul>
<p>We are particularly interested in individuals who are from Black or East Asian ethnic communities but encourage all those interested in participating to contact the research team.</p>
<p>If you join our team, you will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Support us with how we conduct our study.</li>
<li>Review and provide feedback on our study materials.</li>
<li>Attend 3 advisory panel meetings. These will last between 1-2 hours. These meetings will take place in March 2026 (online), April 2026 (online or in-person), and May 2026 (online or in-person).</li>
<li>Join a panel of 8 individuals from ethnic and/or faith minority communities (i) with lived experience (direct or indirect) of gambling harms or (ii) those working within these communities supporting those with experience of gambling harms.</li>
</ul>
<p>There is the option for meetings 2 and 3 to be online, in-person, or as a hybrid model (online and in-person). If participating in-person, the location of these meetings will be in Birmingham. Reasonable (economy/budget) travel expenses to and from Birmingham will be reimbursed. All participation in the above activities will be reimbursed at a rate of £30/per person/per hour. This does not include travel time.</p>

                    <description><![CDATA[<p>I am conducting research into the lived legal experiences of those who have been impacted by gambling harms and how gambling harms leads to encounters with laws and regulations.</p>
<p>I am seeking experts by experience who would be willing to participate in a 1-to-1 remote interview (either by Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or by phone) to share your expertise and lived experience specifically relating to how you have encountered laws and regulation as a result of either your gambling harms, or the gambling harms of a person you know.</p>
<p><span>Interviews will be audio recorded to ensure that I am getting an accurate record of the interview. All information supplied during the interview is confidential and will be retained for at least 10 years in accordance with University of Birmingham guidelines. </span></p>
<p>Interview t<span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">opics include things such as:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">whether you knew about self-exclusion/tried to use it; </span></li>
<li><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">whether you were ever contacted by staff in a gambling company about social responsibility concerns.</span></li>
<li>Whether you interacted with security staff/police.</li>
<li>Whether had any interaction with the courts and your experiences with the criminal justice system (eg. proceeds of crime act, sentencing, support for gambling harms in prison) etc.</li>
</ul>
<p>These may be discussed amongst other potential subjects (eg. gambling advertising, online and crypto-gambling, loot boxes in gaming) etc.</p>
<p>Applications are welcome all the way through to the deadline.</p>

<p>We are seeking experts by experience (EBE’s) who can provide input at and help us shape the work at 3 different stages of the project.</p>
<p>The role would involve attending three meetings (online) with other panel members to discuss the project. No work is required outside of these meetings.</p>
<p>The project begins in May 2025 and runs to March 2025. The 3 EBE panels will take place around May 2025, October 2025 and Feb 2026. The meetings would be held on Teams.</p>
