Job Description

We are a research team from the University of Birmingham, funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). We are working on a project (a review of evidence) on gambling harms in ethnic and faith minority communities. We are looking at the risk factors for gambling harm, the gambling harms experienced, the barriers to treatment, recovery and support and the role of community organisations in preventing harm.

We are looking for people to join our advisory team. Please get in touch with us if you:

  • Identify as being from an ethnic or faith minority community

AND

  • Have experienced harm because of your own or someone else’s gambling

OR

  • Are working within ethnic and faith minority communities supporting those with experience of gambling harms.

We are particularly interested in individuals who are from Black or East Asian ethnic communities but encourage all those interested in participating to contact the research team.

If you join our team, you will:

  • Support us with how we conduct our study.
  • Review and provide feedback on our study materials.
  • Attend 3 advisory panel meetings. These will last between 1-2 hours. These meetings will take place in March 2026 (online), April 2026 (online or in-person), and May 2026 (online or in-person).
  • Join a panel of 8 individuals from ethnic and/or faith minority communities (i) with lived experience (direct or indirect) of gambling harms or (ii) those working within these communities supporting those with experience of gambling harms.

There is the option for meetings 2 and 3 to be online, in-person, or as a hybrid model (online and in-person). If participating in-person, the location of these meetings will be in Birmingham. Reasonable (economy/budget) travel expenses to and from Birmingham will be reimbursed. All participation in the above activities will be reimbursed at a rate of £30/per person/per hour. This does not include travel time.

To apply, please respond on this platform or for any questions, please contact the researcher.

Closing date to apply is 1st March 2026 at 4pm.
